Statements of student internships

Zive Kocev – 3rd year student at the Faculty of Tourism within UTMS:

First of all, I would like to welcome you to the sunny Antalya ... why sunny ... you will soon find out after we disembark this air-conditioned bus.

The temperature today ... ":)) so let's begin! My internship took place in the province of Antalya Turkey in the town of Kemer, located 45 km from the capital of the province of Antalya, the city of Antalya. My job title was as a tour guide in one of the largest tour operators in Turkey “Odeon Tours”, where we welcomed tourists arriving from Macedonia which were accommodated in hotels and catered for them in the best possible way. For me, working for Odeon Tours was a great experience because for the first time we came across challenges of our future profession as a tourism worker. I believe that this experience will one day be very helpful in my future career.

Apart from gaining extensive experience and friendships from Macedonia, Odeon Tours enabled me to gain new friendships with people from different countries, nationalities and cultures that I believe will last a lifetime.

With these people we spent three wonderful months where the working hours was spent professionally and our free time enjoyed ourselves and socialized by the pristine beaches in the beautiful and sunny Antalya.

Davor Dimovski – 3rd year student at the Faculty of Tourism within UTMS:

I am Davor Dimovski, a third year student at the Faculty of Tourism within the University of Tourism and Management in Skopje. Taking my summer internship at the Aegean Melathron Hotel***** in Greece as a bartender, I acquired various skills. I succeeded to improve my work techniques, I learned principles in direct communication with the guests, learned a foreign language which was one of the greatest benefits because the English language is constantly used in communication. Besides English, it was necessary to speak in Greek and Russian. In the past two seasons as an intern in Greece, I certainly can confirm that I am trained to deal with challenges in the tourism industry in Macedonia and beyond.

Sabrina Omerovich – 2nd year student at the Faculty of Public Relations within UTMS:

The summer internship is something memorable for every student. Summer Practicum is something memorable for every student. I was lucky enough to be situated on the beautiful island of Crete in Greece in a city called Sitia where I worked as a waitress in a restaurant and encountered wonderful people. It was an unforgettable experience for me and every other student. When I look back I think to myself that 3 months is quite a lot, but when you are there and start to work and associate with students’ time goes by very quickly and then you complain why I am here for only three months. While, I was working I went to the beach, I had a free vacation at one of the most beautiful resorts.

Milos Dejanovic 2nd year student at the Faculty of Public Relations within UTMS:

This summer I spent my internship working as a tour guide for the Fibula travel agency in Antalya in Turkey. For me, accepting the challenge was a huge turnaround in the current way of living and working. It gave me the chance for the first time to step on an aeroplane, to learn what is discipline, improve my proficiency in foreign languages and most importantly, enabled me to build myself and become a more mature person. It is the type of work that empowers us to meet many people, which makes this very unique, because you never know what type of people you will come across. Also it offers a chance to go to places where people spend lots of money and you actually learn a lot more when you are there than what you can read in a book. Not to mention the experience of fantastic and mystical beauty of a country far different than yours.

Overall, it was a great vacation and gained great experience. In a few sentences I would like to describe what this marvellous city offers but I'm afraid I'll need one month to write without stopping. It's just something you have to experience. You should never discard your chance at the expense of your fears and step courageously towards the future.

Greetings.

Peter Gjurcevski 2nd year student at the Faculty of Tourism within UTMS:

I worked in the Holiday Inn Hotel which is one of the best hotels in the Republic of Macedonia. This was a totally new experience for me. For the first time I saw and felt how a hotel operated. I worked as a concierge, but also worked at the reception and reservations desk. Although it was hard I didn’t quit and had the desire to do this job, because one day I will be part of this industry and slowly you have to get into the rhythm of things. I proved myself with the fact that all employees accepted an assisted me in anything I needed.

As I stated this was a new experience for me, with a great desire I would accept to work anywhere and love my job to be the profession of my future.

The summer internship was a great experience for me, the beginning of forming my career. I acquired greater knowledge and greater experience. Ivana Dameska 3rd year student at the Faculty of Tourism within UTMS:

Personally, I perceived the summer internship as the perfect opportunity to build myself as a person, as well as developing communication skills and the realization of encountering people.

Staying in a foreign country where the tourism industry is very developed, the opportunity to apply theory to practice while acquiring new knowledge, experience and learning of foreign languages which assist in finding a job after graduation and the opportunity to earn money and enjoy myself throughout the summer is all a motive for undertaking an internship
